[edit]🎙️ Bits & Lore
[edit]Norse Code has developed a rich collection of running jokes, recurring bits, and beloved lore over its 600+ episodes. These moments are as much a part of the show's identity as the Vikings analysis itself. Notable recurring elements include Arif's sumo coverage (a genuine passion that has earned its own segment), the annual Christmas clip show, the mailbag, and a cast of recurring guests who have become "friends of the show." The show is also known for its deeply committed bit economy — once a joke enters the Norse Code universe, it tends to stay forever.
See the full Bits & Lore page for a catalogued list of running jokes, memorable moments, and show traditions.
🏆 Friends & Enemies List
[edit]The Norse Code Friends & Enemies List recognizes recurring guests and contributors who have become fixtures of the show over the years. These are the voices listeners know almost as well as Arif and James themselves.
Notable members include:
- Draw Play Dave (The Draw Play) — The show's artist & merch designer
- Justis Mosqueda (Acme Packing Company) — The show's sworn Packers enemy, legally required to appear before every Vikings-Packers matchup
- Jeremy Reisman (Pride of Detroit) — The Lions beat writer and "friend of the show" for NFC North previews
- Lorin Cox (Locked On Bears) — Bears coverage and recurring guest
- Dusty O'Connell — Co-founder and original co-host, now recurring guest
🔥 The Hell League
[edit]The Hell League is a fantasy football league created and run by James Pogatshnik, open to Norse Code listeners via an annual lottery.
Established in 2021 as a platform to experiment with innovations in fantasy cruelty, it requires managers to start two active kickers every week under a uniquely punishing scoring system. The defining feature is a brutal sliding scale for kicker scoring — missed extra points carry a deduction of -50 points, a penalty James increased from -25 midseason in year one because it wasn't penalizing players enough.
By the time of Episode 500, the show had run eight Hell Leagues. Each August, James announces on air that the lottery for new spots is open. To enter, email norsecodepodcast@gmail.com.
See The Hell League for full rules, scoring structure, and season results.
🎤 Live Shows
[edit]Norse Code has held live recordings with fans throughout its history. By the time of Episode 500 in December 2023, the show had completed seven live shows.
Known live show locations include:
- Seattle, WA — Petoskey's Bar, November 29th (early run)
- Minneapolis, MN — Union 32 Craft House, November 2022
