🎙️ Bits & Lore
Norse Code has developed a rich collection of running jokes, recurring bits, and
beloved lore over its 600+ episodes. These moments are as much a part of the show's
identity as the Vikings analysis itself. Notable recurring elements include Arif's
sumo coverage (a genuine passion that has earned its own segment), the annual
Christmas clip show, the mailbag, and a cast of recurring guests who have become
"friends of the show." The show is also known for its deeply committed bit economy
— once a joke enters the Norse Code universe, it tends to stay forever.
🔥 The Hell League
The Hell League is a fantasy football league created and run by James Pogatshnik,
open to Norse Code listeners via an annual lottery.

Established in 2021 as a platform to experiment with innovations in fantasy
cruelty, it requires managers to start two active kickers every week under a
uniquely punishing scoring system. The defining feature is a brutal sliding
scale for kicker scoring — missed extra points carry a deduction of -50 points,
a penalty James increased from -25 midseason in year one because it wasn't
penalizing players enough.

By the time of Episode 500, the show had run eight Hell Leagues.
Each August, James announces on air that the lottery for new spots is open.

Dusty O'Connell is the co-founder of Norse Code and served as
Arif Hasan's original co-host from the podcast's launch in 2013 until 2018.

Role on Norse Code
Dusty co-founded Norse Code and hosted it from 2013 until 2018.
In the show's early years he was Arif's primary on-air partner, providing the
everyman fan perspective alongside Arif's analytical approach. James Pogatshnik
initially filled in as interim host when Dusty was unavailable — a
arrangement that eventually became permanent when James took over as full-time
co-host after Dusty's departure.

Despite stepping back from regular duties, Dusty has remained a beloved presence
in the Norse Code universe, returning as a guest for milestone episodes and
special occasions. He appeared for the Episode 400 celebration, and
continues to join Arif and James for the annual Super Bowl prop bet episode —
one of the most anticipated recurring segments of the show's calendar.

Background
From 2010 until 2014, Dusty volunteered at KGNU Public Radio in Boulder,
Colorado as a reporter, producer, and board operator. He is based in Aurora,
Colorado.
Dusty O'Connell is the co-founder of Norse Code and served as

From 2010 until 2014, Dusty volunteered at KGNU Public Radio in Boulder,
🎙️ Bits & Lore
Norse Code has developed a rich collection of running jokes, recurring bits, and
beloved lore over its 600+ episodes. These moments are as much a part of the show's
identity as the Vikings analysis itself. Notable recurring elements include Arif's
sumo coverage (a genuine passion that has earned its own segment), the annual
Christmas clip show, the mailbag, and a cast of recurring guests who have become
"friends of the show." The show is also known for its deeply committed bit economy
— once a joke enters the Norse Code universe, it tends to stay forever.

See the full Bits & Lore page for a catalogued list of running jokes,
memorable moments, and show traditions.
🏆 Friends & Enemies List
The Norse Code Friends & Enemies List recognizes recurring guests and contributors who have
become fixtures of the show over the years. These are the voices listeners know
almost as well as Arif and James themselves.

Notable members include:
* Justis Mosqueda (Acme Packing Company) — The show's sworn Packers
enemy, legally required to appear before every Vikings-Packers matchup
* Jeremy Reisman (Pride of Detroit) — The Lions beat writer and
"friend of the show" for NFC North previews
* Lorin Cox (Locked On Bears) — Bears coverage and recurring guest
* Dusty O'Connell — Co-founder and original co-host, now recurring guest

🎤 Live Shows
🎙️ Bits & Lore
Norse Code has developed a rich collection of running jokes, recurring bits, and
beloved lore over its 600+ episodes. These moments are as much a part of the show's
identity as the Vikings analysis itself. Notable recurring elements include Arif's
sumo coverage (a genuine passion that has earned its own segment), the annual
Christmas clip show, the mailbag, and a cast of recurring guests who have become
"friends of the show." The show is also known for its deeply committed bit economy
— once a joke enters the Norse Code universe, it tends to stay forever.

* Jeremy Reisman (Pride of Detroit) — The Lions beat writer and
* Lorin Cox (Locked On Bears) — Bears coverage and recurring guest

Background
From 2010 until 2014, Dusty volunteered at KGNU Public Radio in Boulder,
Colorado.

Background
From 2010 until 2014, Dusty volunteered at KGNU Public Radio in Boulder,
Colorado.
Arif Hasan is a Minnesota Vikings blogger, NFL analyst, and co-host of
Norse Code. He is widely regarded as one of the most analytically rigorous
Vikings writers in independent media.

Background
Hasan left a career in direct advocacy and political lobbying to write about
football, and went from covering occasional practices at training camp to covering
the Super Bowl — without a college journalism degree or formal background in
sportswriting.

He attended the University of Minnesota, where he was on the debate team.
It was there that a fantasy football league requirement first sparked his interest
in the sport.

Writing & Analysis
Hasan has been writing about the NFL for more than a decade, specializing in
deep-dive analysis using film and analytics. His work has appeared in the
Star Tribune, the LA Times, the International Business Times, Forbes, MSNBC,
and Bleacher Report. He previously covered the Minnesota Vikings for The Athletic
and Zone Coverage before joining Pro Football Network.

He currently publishes the Wide Left newsletter
on Substack, which is split into three content verticals: Lead Dive for NFL
analysis, Two Gap for college and draft coverage, and Outside Zone for
cultural and political commentary.

On Norse Code
Arif is the analytical heart of the show, bringing film study, statistics, and
league-wide context to every Vikings discussion. He is known on the pod for his
mailbag responses, sumo coverage, consensus big board work, and occasionally
strong opinions about food.
